High tides are twice daily and sometimes cover the Strood, which is the causeway road to the island.

If the tide is at 4.5m or higher, it will most likely cover the road preventing access. It can sometimes take 30 minutes either side of high tide and if it is a particularly high tide it can be up to 1.5 hours either side, especially if a spring tide or the wind is strong.
